Avery was being a fussy little thing the rest of the night. He cried whenever I put him down, and whined whenever I had to help one of his siblings. I tried to calm him down, shush him a little, but he had this indignant look in his eyes that seemed to say, "My mommy, no one else's." Actually, it seemed like all of the boys were being clingy. The girls were content just lying in their play pen with their kittens. Nick tried to put Christopher and Evan down with them, but they started getting upset almost immediately when he began lowering them down and away from his body. "Guys, come on, I need to go to the bathroom." He huddled the boys against his chest and they calmed. "Here, give them to me," I said softly, moving a snoozing Avery to lay on the couch next to me, his little body laying against my thigh. He didn't protest when he saw that he still had contact with me, but closed his eyes. Nick lowered the boys onto my lap. Chris didn't seem to like that that much, but he decided to settle when he saw Nick disappear to the bathroom. "Now, now, no frowning," I said softly, tapping his nose. He looked back at me with wide eyes. Like his brothers and sisters, he had Nick's milk chocolate eyes. I looked over at the girls to check on them. They were being angels, as were the pets.
